MEET TIMELINE

Dive meets start at 4pm. Warm-ups for the home team are 3 pm and for the visiting team are 3:30pm.

Swim meets start at 6:30pm. Warm-ups for the home team are at 5:30pm and the visiting team are 6:00pm.

Swimmers check in with your coaches upon arrival.

Volunteers check in at the meeting 15 minutes before the meet starts.  There will be an announcement made.

Before the start of the meet, you may want to write your swimmers event, heat, and lane assignment on on their arm.

WHAT TO BRING TO A SWIM MEET

Typically there are concession stands serving grilled food, snacks, and non alcoholic drinks. Most concession stands are cash only. Feel free to bring your own cooler and snacks.

Pack your googles and team cap, along with an extra towel. Sharpies are helpful to write events on your swimmers arm or leg.

It's a good idea to put camping chairs and/or a blanket in your car if seats aren't available.

Meets go later into the evening, so it may be good to bring a sweatshirt and sweatpants.

Marking Your Athlete's Arm

Image result for guide to arm marking for swim meets

Step 1: Check out the heat sheet

  • Heat sheets list every event in the meet in order. These heat sheets will be emailed to you. The heat sheet includes the number of the event as well as the distance and type of event (for example 50 yard freestyle).
  • The number of heats and the names of the swimmers will be listed next.  Typically, heats are swum from slowest to fastest.  If it is the first time a swimmer has swum the event, this will be indicated by "NT" for "no time" and they will swim in the earliest heats.  Finally each swimmer is assigned a lane. Don't forget to check to see if they are swimming in any relays.

STEP 2: Write down the information on swimmer's arm for quick reference

  • Write meet information on their arm (or thigh) with a Sharpie to help them keep track of their events.  Eight and under swimmers will also write their name on their back.  This helps the clerk of course line up the swimmers for their events.
  • Use 4 columns to show event number, heat number, lane number and stroke.
