MEET INFORMATION - OHSC vs Madeira Swim Club
Theme: It’s a BLUE OUT!
Dive Meet
- OHSC warm ups 3:00 - 3:30
- Dive meet starts at 4:00
Swim Meet
- Athletes arrive in their themed outfit (BLUE OUT) and get their events written on their arms. Event info will be found on the heat sheet which will be sent to you around 3:00. There will also be a heat sheet posted to the bulletin board outside the pool office.
- At 5:30 athletes meet their coaches at the starting blocks for warm ups.
- There will be a “timer’s meeting” around 6:15. If you are working the meet as a starter, timer, stroke/turn judge you will be come to the patio by the lifeguard table to get directions and supplies you need for the meet.
- Around 6:15 they will be called to the mushroom area for our team cheer.
- The swim meet starts at 6:30.
Concession Stand: During home meets we have a CASH ONLY swim team concession stand with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. We ask that all families donate something to our concession stand. It can be homemade or store bought, but it should be individually wrapped. Some ideas are fruit, baked goods, candy, etc. The concession stand is cash only.
What else to bring: extra towels, googles, a Sharpie. Some people like to bring “camp” chairs, coolers, and snacks.
Team Spots: Our team sets up on the “highway side” of the pool. The visitor side is on the driveway side (a.k.a. The Grassy Knoll)
Kona Ice will be at the swim meet right outside the front gate.
Meet Parking: It is always helpful if you can carpool if possible. If the lot fills, you can park on the hill or across the street at the church. Please don't park in the emergency lane or along the driveway where there are “no parking” signs. If they do then we will have to pause the meet until they move, as this creates a safety hazard.
HELP NEEDED
Team mailboxes: Each family will have a team mailbox where you can find ribbons, picture forms, etc. We are looking for someone or a small group to update the file folder labels for the season. This can be done during team practice. All materials will be provided. Please email [email protected] if you are interested.
UPCOMING DATES:
June 17th Team Picture Day - 9:30 am
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**Update for Thursday, May 28th**
We have a change of plans for our May 28th practice. The 10 and under group will practice from 5:30 - 6:30. The 11 and overs will practice 6:45 - 7:45. We did not have a volunteer for the preseason party, so we will not have one this year. Mini Orcas will have their first practice on Monday, June 1st at 10:15. We will be on the patio by the life guard table to answer any swim/dive team related questions at 6:00. You are also welcome to email questions to [email protected].
News for the Week of June 1st
For each meet you need to go into Swimtopia and “accept” or “decline” if your child is participating in the meet. This lets the coaches know who is available to participate. There is a place where you can leave a note for the coaches about the meet. You can also find the volunteer sign up for each meet. The swim and dive meets are listed separately this year, so you can “accept” or “decline” for both. Please be careful that you are registering for swim, dive, or both.
Hello, Orca team members and Families! We are excited to get the 2026 season started! Starting June 1st all of our communication will be through Swimtopia and our private Orchard Hill Swim Team Facebook page.
Your team fees make your athlete(s) a part of both the swim and dive teams. You do not need to know how to dive to be on the dive team. They start with a forward “pencil” jump and build from there as your child is ready. Our swim and dive age level practices are set up opposite of each other, so they can participate in both and you get the most bang for your buck. Even if your child doesn’t feel ready to participate in a meet, we encourage all of our swimmers to give diving a try. Assistant Coach Alllie Dangel will be coaching the morning practices and Coach Jason will be coaching during the evenings.
Our Orca team members range from recreational summer swimmers and divers to those who compete year round. While we want to win races, events, and meets, we want anyone who wants to participate to be treated with kindness and respect. Our goal is to foster a safe and fun environment for our athletes.
Our swim and dive team is run by volunteers. We strive to keep you up to date with clear concise communication. If at any point you have any questions or fun new ideas you would like to help with during the season, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
On Thursday, May 28th we will have an optional 20 minute new parent meeting at 6:00 to answer any questions you have about the upcoming season.
Holding Westside Swim Finals at our pools allows us to raise money for our swim and dive team. This takes a lot of volunteers to make this event run smoothly. We are working on saving up for a timing system. In the past, we have used money raised to purchase our water bottle refill fountain and lane lines. Thank you to Robin Behrmann and Chrissy Dangle for heading our basket raffle this year. Please see the letter for more info about the raffle. Donations can be put in the pump house or guard office.
Volunteer Responsibilities: Swim and dive meets are run by volunteers. When you register your child(ren) to be a part of our team, you accept the responsibility of volunteering. An at home meet requires 44 swim volunteers and 6 dive volunteers. Away meets require half as many.
Each family is responsible for volunteering for at least 4 swim meet shifts if you have 1-2 non Mini Orca athletes or 5 swim meet shifts if you have 3 or more non Mini Orca athletes. If you have a diver, you are responsible for 3 shifts during dive meets. Some shifts for swim meets may be ½ a meet. Other shifts may be over the entire meet, but you have some flexibility and you don’t have to be at a “post”. For your child to participate at finals these volunteer shifts must be fulfilled. Participation in finals also requires that you volunteer during finals events. Shifts can be covered by older children (high school age) or other family members. If you are new to summer swim and dive, we will offer a training for how to do the job.
